MY WELLNESS JOURNEY
Wellness isn't just about health and fitness. In fact, it's MUCH more than that. To some people it's about being vegan, the right supplement intake, crystal healing or even just quitting smoking. It's loving yourself and taking care of your mind and body. Feeling healthy and positive within yourself.
For me, it started after a break-up. I wanted to fill my free time on that revenge body, I was going to the gym every single day and I was obsessed with working out. Before I knew it I had dropped from a size 12 to a size 8.
I had people telling me I looked amazing, and some told me I was 'too' skinny. But I loved how I looked, and I didn't look unhealthy, just different. Toned and confident but the biggest change I noticed was how I felt. I had changed my diet and cut out processed foods, sugar, cheese. I was alert, awake, my immune system had improved and I was stress free, even my hair, skin and nails were in incredible condition. It was then I realised that looking after yourself really does improve your quality of life.
But over the past few years I have realised that wellness isn't about restricting your lifestyle of 'good stuff' like chocolate and cheesecake, it's about filling yourself with the REAL good stuff and finding great substitutes. Our generation have become pioneers in the health industry and there are plenty of food, skincare and even cleaning products without heavy chemicals, hormones or preservatives. We just have to care a little more about ourselves and what we choose to put in our bodies. One great advantage for me is having a sister-in-law with incredible knowledge on food and nutrition - you can follow her instagram and blog @tribute_to_food. When we get together we talk all things fashion and food, (and anything new in at Space NK, we're obsessed!)
So, going forward my main priorities are my fitness, nutrition, my skincare and my mental wellbeing. Trying to avoid stress and keeping a clear headspace. Don't get me wrong, i'm not yet channelling Kourtney Kardashian and throwing away all of my plastic tupperware, (although i'm sure she's on to something - watch this space) but I wish I had someone a few years back who had tried and tested the products and fads that I was curious about, so I am excited to write many more helpful blog posts on my wellness journey!
