MY NIGHT TIME ROUTINE
I think we all probably know we need more sleep, I know I definitely do. But with work, the gym, shopping, cleaning, cooking, socialising, it's difficult to ensure I am getting the beauty sleep I need! I also struggle to drift off when I do go to bed - I don't know whether it is my anxiety, the temptation to spend hours scrolling through instagram or that I am generally just a night owl. More recently I have looked at different ways to improve my sleep and incredibly (and mostly due to one product in particular) I have slept like a baby the past few months.
Firstly I love good quality pyjamas - they don't have to be Olivia Von Halle to be beautifully made, my favourite are white silk classic pyjamas from M&S, they are around £30.00 and I live in them at home. Second are my candles, my favourite are Elemis, Diptyque and Byredo but any scent will do as long as it relaxes you and helps you settle down for the day.
Afterwards I will make a chamomile or peppermint tea - chamomile helps me to sleep and peppermint aids digestion and soothes the stomach. Recently I have been loving the Aveda licorice root and peppermint infusion. Then I spray my pillow with the This Works sleep plus pillow spray and roll the deep sleep stress less on to my wrists, the gentle scent of lavender and vetivert has been used to help people sleep for years and my mum used to do this for me when I was younger too.
Finally I set my iPhone to night mode (this changes the colour tone of your screen to a warm orange colour that isn't as harsh on the eyes and helps the eyes/brain start to relax), and I get in to bed and put on my Slip silk eye mask. Slip is a brand I only recently came across on Net-a-Porter and I have become infatuated with. When I received this product the packaging was flawless, the mask arrives in it's own box to keep it in perfect condition and the silk used is the softest I have ever felt. I couldn't wait to try it, and low and behold that night and every night since I have completely passed out.
Does it work because of the comfort in the silk or because you are shielding your eyes from the tiny blinking lights of your phone and other devices? I'm not sure of the answer but all I know is that it works. And now if I am tossing and turning and fidgeting in bed my boyfriend will get out and fetch my Slip mask, throw it at me and within minutes I am in the land of nod. So if you buy one product from this post - make sure it is your own Slip eye mask!
